a little bit of paradise - part one

i love the sun. i love its warmth; i love its color; i love the goodness it brings out of people. i love the sun.

for those of you unfamiliar with the san francisco coastal weather, we don’t get a whole lot of sunshine during the traditional spring and summer months. so we were very excited when march rolled around, and we were able to spend an entire week down in san diego… sunny, beach-lined san diego.

the first half of our trip was spent with friends at a beach house just a few steps away from the sand and water – in both directions! we filled our time with trips to the water, sea world, barbecues, movies, oreo milkshakes, games (my first attempt ever at Settlers), wild animal park and a few minutes of relaxing.

thanks ben, jen, bella, mike, alison, livie and natalie for such a great time!

mike, alison and the girls + todd and ryder enjoying the sea lion show at sea world.
ryder enthralled by the whales.... aka shamu. ryder loves whales. long before our trip to sea world, he began requesting whale movies from youtube as he eats his meals. he was very tired, but loved it!

up close and personal.

told you he was tired. thank goodness for reclining strollers.

the man woke up just in time for the dolphin show... with shamu in hand.

the gang after a long day at sea world. fun times had by all!!

ryder and livie enjoying a hole in the sand together. i love ryder's face here!

"just getting a feel for my board before testing the waters."

"now if i can only get a good sense for the break in the waves."

happy as could be... just buried in the sand and clinging to his shovels. he is very possessive of his shovels, if you didn't know that already.

my two handsome boys. i love them.

ryder showing off his little piece of jelly fish from the bay. so proud. his following action was to chuck it back into the water as far as possible.

enjoying the carousel at the san diego wild animal park. look at the face of pure bliss!

ryder and bella enjoying a rest in the shade just prior to checking out all of the monkeys. so much time in the sun can be exhausting for such little people riding around in strollers all day.

waiting in line for the safari ride at the wild animal park. (please note i'm 21 weeks pregnant here.... gotta love a growing belly.)
the fam on the safari ride. these 20 min were not ryder's finest, but we made it through.

Oh yay, thanks for posting these pictures. We had so much fun eating oreo shakes with you, among other things. Glad you finally participated in a settlers game, even though it was the longest one in history. We should take a trip every year. I love the surf board pictures, Ryder looks so cute. Hope you're all feeling good!

Everytime I see photos I miss CA so much! We have an orange BOB too, don't you just love how smooth they are :) Any luck with the glider? You'll all look so great and what a stylish beautiful bride she was.
