For our fourth fabulous day in Canada, we headed to Writing on Stone...
but first we had to stop in Milk River to visit our dear friend, Mr. Rex.
Ryder was in heaven, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Poor Cannon was offered up as Mr. Rex's lunch.
Once we made it to Writing on Stone, we first hiked the hoodoos.
Here's some history for you regarding the hoodoos....
"Writing-on-Stone Park contains the greatest concentration of rock art on the North American Great Plains. There are over 50 petroglyph sites and thousands of works....
"The location where the park now sits was, 85 million years ago, the coastal shelf of a large inland sea. Sand deposited in the Late Cretaceous Period compacted over time and became sandstone. With the melting of the ice sheets at the end of the last Ice Age, water, ice and wind eroded the sandstone to produce the hoodoos and cliffs that are part of the park today."

Ryder loved it all! He was determined to discover and excavate some dinosaurs bones.
Cannon enjoyed himself too... just not as passionately.
Papa, Cannon, Todd, Nana and Ryder making their way through.
The fam.... with me five months pregnant. Lovely.
Ryder decided he'd take a brief nap inside one of the hoodoos. :)
And what better way to end our climbing adventures than by chasing a rabbit through and around the hoodoos until he found revuge in this bush. Ryder thought for sure he'd be able to catch him barehanded.
It sure was a beautiful day!
After all of the running around and climbing, we made our way over to the nearby river. Papa even let Ryder drive the car over to our lunch spot, all within the park... but the ranger who spotted us didn't seemed to like that idea at all!
After lunch we pulled out the sand toys and had fun getting muddy. The "sand" down in the river there is so silky soft! Unfortunately, the sun decided to hide itself and the temperature dropped significantly. We didn't last too long out there.... cold weather + tired boys = grumpiness.
Ryder was supper emotionally distressed, so I only have this one picture he and the Cannon man beside the river.
Canada Day Five consisted of laziness, with a bit of Dr. Mario playing, sandbox digging, restful sleeping and bird house building...
I just love this cuddly picture of Ryder and Papa together!
And of course there was some bird house painting too. I failed to get a shot of the finished product, but it looks very lovely out on the playground.
On to day six....
